Privacy Policy
Fajr Companion (“the App”) helps Muslims wake up for Fajr prayer. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App uses, why it is used, and how it is handled. By using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
The App may use the following information:
- Location. With your permission, the App uses your device location or a city you select to calculate local Fajr prayer times. Coordinates and city details are stored on your device.
- Camera photos. When you choose to verify that you are awake, you may photograph your prayer mat. That photo is sent to our verification server to check that it shows a prayer mat, then discarded after processing. We do not use mat photos to identify you personally.
- App preferences. Alarm settings, streak count, checklist state, and similar preferences are stored locally on your device.
- Optional analytics. If analytics are enabled in a given build, the App may send anonymous usage events (for example, app opens or screen views) to understand product usage. Analytics do not require an account.
- Device notifications. With your permission, the App schedules local notifications so the Fajr alarm can ring. Notification content stays on your device.
2. How we use information
- To calculate and display Fajr times for your location
- To schedule and deliver the Fajr alarm
- To verify prayer-mat photos as part of the wake-up flow
- To keep streaks, settings, and checklist progress on your device
- Optionally, to understand how the App is used and improve it
3. Where information is processed
- On your device. Most data (settings, streaks, checklist, cached prayer times, cached adhan audio) stays in on-device storage.
- Prayer-time providers. When online, the App may request Fajr times from third-party prayer-time services (such as IslamicFinder or AlAdhan) using your city or coordinates.
- Verification server. Prayer-mat photos are uploaded over HTTPS to our FastAPI verification backend (currently hosted on Railway) for image classification, then not retained for profiling or advertising.
- Adhan audio. The App may download a remote adhan audio file and cache it on your device for offline playback.
- Analytics provider. If enabled, anonymous events may be sent to PostHog.
4. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with advertisers. Limited technical providers process data only to run the App (hosting, prayer-time APIs, optional analytics).
5. Data retention
- Local app data remains on your device until you clear app storage, uninstall the App, or use in-app reset options (where available).
- Prayer-mat verification images are processed to return a result and are not kept as a user profile or photo gallery.
- Optional analytics events are retained according to the analytics provider’s settings for the project.
6. Permissions
Depending on your device, the App may request:
- Location — local prayer times
- Notifications — Fajr alarm
- Camera — prayer-mat verification
- Microphone — only if required by the camera framework on your platform; the App does not record audio for verification
You can deny or revoke permissions in your device settings. Some features will not work without the related permission.
7. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Your choices
- You can deny location, notification, or camera access.
- You can clear local app data or uninstall the App to remove on-device information.
- You can stop using mat verification if you do not want photos processed by the verification server.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
